Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

DENIVA has joined hundreds of national and international NGOs, the academia, and government officials to planfor global disaster risk reduction and build resilience of local communities.

The two-day global conference organized by Cordaid and the Global Network for Disaster Reduction ends today in The Hague, Netherlands.

The more than 130 participants, including DENIVA Director of Programmes Ms. Anne Akwango and Governance Programme Officer Ms. Susan Nanduddu, will review the Hyogo Framework of Action, which addresses disasters.

Several governments, including Uganda, agreed to implement the 10-year programme in 2005. DENIVA signed a memorandum of understanding with 12 CSOs in October 2012 to undertake a disaster risk reduction survey.

The Views from the Frontline (VFL) survey project 2013was undertaken in eight disaster-prone regions of Uganda, including Elgon, Kigezi, and Rwenzori sub-regions, Katakwi and Pader, and flood-prone Kampala districts. The partner organizations include Bugisu Civil Society Network, Katakwi District Development Actors Development Network, and Pader NGO Forum. Others are the Kabarole Resource Centre, the Kabale Civil Society Forum, and the Makerere Women’s Development Association.
